KRI Researcher Secures RIF Funding to Advance Regulatory T-Cell Therapies

Portrait of Dr Chryso Pierides

We are pleased to announce that Dr Chryso Pierides of the Immunogenetics and Transplantation Immunology Team (ITIM) at the Karaiskakio Research Institute (KRI), has secured competitive research funding through the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) Excellence Hubs 2024 programme.

The two-year research project, iG-Treg, aims to optimise the manufacturing and characterisation of HLA-G-expressing regulatory T cells, with the goal of improving their quality, safety and potential therapeutic applications.

The research focuses on advancing regulatory T-cell therapies for the prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), a serious complication of haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, while exploring opportunities for broader applications, including solid organ transplantation.

The project will be conducted in collaboration with the Karaiskakio Foundation and the Institute of Cell Therapy at the University of Patras, Greece.
